A Waiting Heart-It's all new

Today on the way home from church, D and I were talking about Kenson coming home, baby proofing, etc.. One of the things that never ceases to amaze me is how many things will be new to Kenson when he comes home. Or how many things will be something he has had limited exposure to. I've used those thoughts to cheer myself up when I've been disappointed at all the little milestones I've missed in his first two years. I have thought things like "Remember that you will get to enjoy watching him play in the bathtub for the first time, when he realizes that he can make a toy squirt or make the water splash." A baby comes to know all of these things gradually but for Kenson so much of it will be instant.

Here's a list of things we know will be new for Kenson or things that he has had limited experiences with:
  • snow
  • flushing toliets
  • televisions
  • pets
  • books
  • dirt
  • grass
  • a refrigerator
  • a kitchen stove
  • birthday and Christmas presents
  • car seats
  • parks
  • grocery stores
  • items like food, clothing and toys being available all day long
  • quiet places that aren't filled with kids
  • car rides
  • enjoying bathtime with toys
  • ice cream, candy, and soda
  • high chairs and booster seats
  • English

When you think of what an American two year old is accustomed to and then the things that will be new for Kenson, it's easy to see how he has so much new to acclimate to.

Hehe! I can't wait! With Evan, he had never been in a car before. And he got really carsick at first whenever we went anywhere. So needless to say, we didn't travel alot in the beginning days...which was probably a good thing anyway:-)

thanks for posting this to remind me...I've been a little down lately...Terry

I've been thinking about that a lot lately. I work a few hours a week in our church preschool program. To see what they do and then think about what my twins do all day is overwhelming. They are past three and don't know life outside that one room except when we take them to the hotel.
